"pfctl -x loud" slowing the clock?



Hello all,
 
has anyone seen something like this? turning on debugging in pf
seems to slow down the system clock. This is an excerpt of
/var/log/messages from an older system (3.5-stable compiled
2004-07-27):
Feb 28 14:21:01 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 0.049075 seconds

Feb 28 14:46:15 turn on pf debugging: pfctl -x loud

Feb 28 15:21:01 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 75.330958 seconds
Feb 28 15:41:04 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 103.728262 seconds
Feb 28 15:57:57 turn off pf debugging: pfctl -x none
Feb 28 16:01:03 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 108.757344 seconds
Feb 28 16:21:04 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 62.620418 seconds
Feb 28 16:41:03 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 16.548039 seconds 
Feb 28 17:01:01 gw7 NTP: rdate: adjust local clock by 0.048156 seconds
